The ancient Chinese legend of Blue Willow tells of a young daughter who fell in love not with the wealthy merchant to whom she was promised, but with her father's clerk, who lived behind a nearby willow tree. The young lovers eloped-and soon were found by the girl's angry father, who swore revenge on their lives. But the gods took pity on this devoted couple and transformed them into birds, shown flying away together as depicted in the Blue Willow china pattern, one of the most recognized patterns in the world. Blue Willow is magnificently transformed in the Blue Willow Heirloom Porcelain® Musical Egg, lavished with over 80 hand-set faux jewels in the sumptuous style of Peter Carl Fabergé, court jeweler to the Russian royal family.
Inspired by Fabergé's priceless jeweled egg designs, this rare edition opens to reveal a pair of graceful, hand-sculpted birds from the Blue Willow legend, forming a heart shape. Expertly hand-painted in dramatic cobalt blue, the sculpture gleams with silver accents throughout in the iconic Fabergé style. Glorious from any angle, the edition plays the classic "Lover's Concerto."
Measures about 6.5" H.
